Winter Olympics 2014 are here!

Winter Olympics 2014 are here!

Winter Olympics 2014 are here!

If you love watching Alpine and cross-country skiing, bobsleigh and curling, figure skating and ice jockey, snowboarding or any other winter sport that comes into your mind, then you definitely know that the Winter Olympics 2014 are about to start. They will be held in the city of Sochi in Russia and will take place in the period 7 – 23 February. It may be comfortable and cozy to watch the games on the TV, but this is a great chance to be present at 98 events in total of 15 sport disciplines and be right on site where sports history is being made. Besides, this is a great chance to visit the Russian city of Sochi and the resort town of Krasnaya Polyana where will be held some of the events.

Winter Olympics 2014 events will happen at the Olympic Park in Imeretinsky Valley on the Black Sea coast, on the Fisht Olympic Stadium and several indoor venues nearby, while the snow events will be organized in Krasna Polyana resort. The winter games during this Olympics will be remembered with several new competitions including half pipe ski, ski slope style, snowboard parallel slalom, figure skating mixed team and several more.

If you are already considering a trip, you should know that Sochi has average temperature of 8.3°Cin February, so do not pack as if you are going to Siberia. Still, bring warm clothes, hat, gloves and scarf, but also your sunglasses as the sun could be quite harsh on the eyes when you are watching the different skiing competitions. Finding a cheap airplane ticket to Sochi now with the Winter Olympic Games might be tricky, but check the options offered at StudnetUnivesre. For accommodation, you can try your luck at the hotels and hostels enlisted in the web base of HotelsCombined and Viator and mention the fact that you are a student in study abroad program in Europe or an exchange student, as there will most probably be a discount.

Remember to bring your camera with you and make photos of the sport events and Sochi area, as there is a chance that we will come up with a new photo contest very soon, and who knows… you might end up with a prize!

Note that the Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi will be the 12th Olympics to outlaw smoking. Thus, no smoking would be allowed during the Games at all Sochi venues, including the cafes, bars and restaurants in the Olympic Park area. Great, right? If you still can’t get rid of that awful money consuming habit of yours, may be this would be the right moment to do so!

While spending a great trip at the Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi and Krasna Polyana resort, make sure to buy some souvenirs for your family back in the United States and your friends and roommates at the dormitory of your study abroad program. The best souvenirs will be the ones with the Olympic Winter Games 2014 mascots and they are not one but three – a Polar Bear, an Amur Leopard and an European Hare. There will be plenty of T-shirts, badges, bags and key rings, believe us!
