The Top 3 European Cities for Living Abroad

The Top 3 European Cities for Living Abroad

With nearly 70% of students who study abroad choosing to do so in Europe, it’s clear that it’s quite a popular choice for people looking to spend time overseas. With many diverse countries to choose from, there’s truly something for everyone no matter what you’re planning on studying. However, when it comes to the best European cities to live in, there are a few that really stand out - and in more ways than one.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
With the Netherlands being routinely named as one of the happiest countries in the world, the capital of Amsterdam can prove to be the perfect city for those who choose to study abroad there - especially when the family will be coming along or visiting frequently. While Dutch is the official language, English is widely spoken by many, making it the perfect destination for families who wish to avoid a large language barrier when out and about. This can prove to be helpful at restaurants and the like, especially for those who may have dietary restrictions like food allergies.
There’s also no shortage of things to do in Amsterdam, whether it be regular outings on weekends or special occasions, like when extended family comes to visit. From learning about the history of the Second World War at the Anne Frank museum (which also happens to be the house she stayed in) to the hands-on NEMO science museum and adventurous canal tours, you’re sure to find something different to do in Amsterdam each and every day.
Prague, Czech Republic
Also referred to as the heart of Europe, the capital city of Prague has much to offer to those looking to study abroad in a historic European city. Along with underground city tours and a vibrant music scene and nightlife, the country also has diverse cuisine with dishes like sauerkraut soup and fried cheese. Prague is home to multiple cultural and historical attractions that are well worth spending time at, such as the Charles Bridge. What’s more, the Czech Republic was recently rated as the seventh safest country in 2018, which can bring peace of mind for those who are studying or living abroad for the first time.
Paris, France
Without a doubt, Paris is perhaps one of the most popular destinations for those looking to study abroad - and it’s not difficult to see why. Packed with well-established universities and programs, the large city offers more than just the Eiffel Tower to anyone who chooses to study and live there. With an easy to navigate metro system, there are plenty of parks that are perfect for spending time at, along with much to do within the rich culture, like trying classic French pastries and other dishes. Furthermore, the Paris Zoological Park and Museum of Natural History make for perfect weekend trips, and picnics in front of the Eiffel Tower have the potential to become part of a new routine.
Studying abroad in Europe is a gratifying experience for any student. That being said, when it comes to picking a destination, there are several diverse options available that have the potential to be a perfect fit.
